    Measure the actual depth from the ground to the connection point of the buried gate valve. This prevents jacking caused by an overlong rod or insufficient transmission from an undersized rod.
     
  3. 3.Set the Gate Valve to Fully Closed Position and Connect the Indicator Post
     
    Key note: Before connection, ensure the underground gate valve is fully in the SHUT position. Align the bottom connector of the indicator post with the valve stem or flange interface of the gate valve for docking.
     
  4. 4.Calibrate the Indicator to the "SHUT" Position
     
    After connection, manually rotate the top operating mechanism of the indicator post to adjust the display in the indicator window to the "SHUT" state. This step synchronizes the visual indication with the actual physical status of the fully closed valve.
     
  5. 5.Tighten Flange Bolts
     
    Align the connecting flange at the bottom of the indicator post with the matching flange of the gate valve stem, and fasten the bolts with specified torque to ensure firm connection without looseness.
     
  6. 6.Reinstall the Indicator Cover
     
    Reattach the indicator cover removed in the first step to provide protection against dust, rainwater and unauthorized operation.
     
 
 
The installation is completed. To open the valve, fire personnel only need to remove the cover and rotate the operating mechanism counterclockwise with a special wrench. The indicator window will switch from "SHUT" to "OPEN", and the buried gate valve will open synchronously.
 

IV. Operation and Maintenance Guidelines

 

Daily Operation

 
  • Valve Opening: Remove the indicator cover and rotate the operating rod counterclockwise with a standard wrench until the window displays "OPEN".
  • Valve Closing: Rotate the operating rod clockwise until the window displays "SHUT".
  • Always reinstall the indicator cover after operation; padlocks can be added to prevent unauthorized access.
 

Regular Inspection

 
In accordance with NFPA 25 standards, weekly inspections are recommended for non-monitored post indicator valves to verify the following items:
 
  • Clean, intact indicator window glass with legible markings;
  • Flexible rotation of the operating wrench without jamming or abnormal resistance;
